Nature Lovers can find the Badkhal Lake near Faridabad in Haryana, about 32 kilometers from Delhi.
Fringed by the hills of the Aravalli Range it is a man-made embankment. Owing to unchecked mining in neighbouring areas, the lake has now totally dried up.
Close to Badkhal Lake, is Peacock Lake, which is another picturesque spot.
It is an important biodiversity area contiguous to Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary within the Northern Aravalli leopard wildlife corridor.
The process of reviving the dried-up Badkhal Lake in Faridabad has begun. The state government has handed over the work of refilling the lake to the Faridabad Smart City Limited (FSSL), the company looking after the Smart City project here.
» The Rs 67-crore project is likely to be completed within two years.
» The Govt had to drop the earlier proposal of refilling the lake with irrigation water after a study found it unfeasible.
Later, the authorities decided to fill the lake with the help of a sewage-treatment plant (STP) and it would be done by the FSSL.
Spread over 40 acres, the lake had gone dry almost two decades back.
The main reasons are illegal mining and operation of private water bottling plants in its vicinity.
Though several meetings took place regarding the revival of the lake.
The main problem is the permanent source of water as the lake requires a continuous inflow of thousands of gallons around the year.
