According to Local Legend this tank was first excavated by King Kuru the ancestor of Kauravs & Pandavas.
Moreover, having seen its huge water body Abul-Fazl the courtier of Mughal emperor Akbar during solar eclipse has described the vast water body of this sarovar as miniature Sea.
According to the local tradition, Yudhistar erected a tower on the island situated in the middle of Sarovar.

In the same island complex lies a ancient Draupadi kupa.
The northern bank of the Sarovar has the shrine of Lord Shiva called Sarveshwar Mahadev.

Annual Gita Jayanti celebrations are held on banks of Brahma-Sarovar in November-December.

Brahma Sarovar Lake in Haryana is one of Asia’s largest man-made pond.
The dimensions of the pond are 3600 ft long, 1500 ft broad, and 45 ft deep.
Brahma stands for Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe in Hinduism, and Sarovar in Hindi means ‘pond’.
The pond is named such because myths say that Lord Brahma created the universe from the land of Kurukshetra, after performing a huge Yagya.
Besides, A giant black stone chariot of Lord Krishna and Arjuna is located in its premises.
The Lake has various ghats after the name of the most prominent characters of the Mahabharata.
