Imagine you are Ernest. Narrate the story that his mother told him. Begin like this: My mother and I were sitting at the door of our cottage. We were looking at the Great Stone Face. I asked her if she had ever seen any one who looked like the Stone Face. Then she told me this story.

A child in future should be born. He was destined to become the wisest, greatest and noblest person of his time. In manhood, his face would resemble to the Great Stone Face. The inhabitants of our valley still had faith in the prophecy. A few learned men in the valley ignored it as an idle talk. But majority of the people were waiting for that greatest, noblest and wisest person to come.

When I arrived at the valley, I found them shouting: “The Great man has returned! They considered me as the Great Stone Face. A rumour was on the trail in the valley that I had the resemblance to the Stone Face. I was very much excited. They welcomed me. All of them wanted to speak to me. Their eyes had astonishment. I enjoyed their company and felt elated. After a few day I was told that the old prophecy was going to be true.

Human beings are generally superstitious in mind. They try to resemble one thing with the other, knowingly or unknowingly. Seen from a distance hilltops and huge rocks seem to assume various shapes. They may resemble an animal or a human figure. People attribute stories to these shapes. Some stories come true, others don’t. This stone story is one such shape that reminds the inhabitants of the valley of a prophecy that comes true. Let us read it.
